Headline News

thehalsreport.com | A new report from a highly influential group of scientists is urging the Department of Defense to begin collecting and mapping the full genome of all military personnel. [1]

Pentagon officials believe gene-mapping all military personnel could lower health costs within the military and help scientist learn a great deal about the link between fighting and genetics.

So, “what’s the big deal, why does it matter?” The report sneakily inserted the possible idea of the weaponization of genetic information into the report. “It may be beneficial to know the genetic identities of an adversary,” it says. The Department of Defense will be in charge of the giant database housing the soldiers records and will likely benefit by organizing personnel data into phenotypes for the military.

The report was introduced by a group of high-level scientists known as the Jasons. The Jasons are a group of well-regarded scientists who purportedly help the government solve problems. [2] Ann Finkbeiner, a critically acclaimed science writer claims several Jasons have been Nobel Prize winners. “My feel for their track record is that they are taken very seriously,” she said. [3]

Some individuals including myself would argue that this type of information and technology could be used for evil and to harm innocent people. Should we be concerned about the advancing state of genetic research and its susceptibility to improper use by negative authority? Should we worry about corporate control and exploitation of genetic data? Will future military assignments be based on genetics rather than ability.

The report also claims DNA sequencing is so cheap now that millions of individuals will have their genome sequenced within three years. “DNA sequencing is already cheap enough and further reductions in cost will make human genome sequencing increase in scope from hundreds of people to millions of people within three years.” [4]

I don’t know about you, but this reminds me of the movie 1984. The entire subject screams eugenics. Is it really necessary to map the genomes of each individual soldier in the military, and what’s up with this strange group of scientists called the Jasons? The entire story emanates science fiction and tyranny
